Mother’s Day Gifts She Will Love

Mother’s Day can be challenging– trying to figure out what to do, what gifts to buy, where to go. Since I am a mom I thought I would share some of my favorite things to do and receive.

Massage: One of my favorite presents, if someone was going to spend money on me, is a massage from my favorite masseurs. This Sunday my wonderful husband booked an appointment for me in the morning, to start off my day by relaxing. I can’t wait! There is a caveat on this one, though: if your giftee does not have a favorite place or person to go to, be wary about purchasing a massage from a chain place or someone you do not know. I recently made the mistake of purchasing a Grupon massage/facial deal at a chain place and it was HORRIBLE. It’s better to ask friends or neighbors if they can recommend a great place.

Walk: One of my favorite things to do is take a beautiful walk. Here is North San Diego we have so many wonderful places to choose from – Carlsbad beach boardwalk, the Batiquitos Lagoon, Torrey Pines trails. A good walk with my husband, kids and dogs just makes any day perfect…and even better, it’s free! Of course, you can make it a bike ride or roller skate, whatever mom prefers.

Beach/Park Picnic: Spending time at the beach or a great park is another fantastic idea. Just pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful weather. Here in North San Diego the weather has been summer-like lately, so being outdoors is a great choice for Mom.

Lunch: Many people plan elaborate brunches on Mother’s Day, and they are usually expensive and are buffets. Personally, I prefer to wait until lunch time, and then go to one of my favorite local restaurants and get a fresh, healthy lunch I can eat with my family on a patio. That’s what I am doing after my massage (and before my walk) on Sunday! This way you can dress casually and enjoy your favorite dishes.

Flowers: Flowers are nice but I personally prefer ones I can plant in my garden. This is such a great time of year to garden. If you have a Mom-giftee who loves to spend time gardening this is the perfect gift. If you want mom to relax and not do any work on Mother’s Day you can offer to plant them yourself!

Manicure/Pedicure: Another gift that gives Mom a bit of pampering to thank her for all the work she does.

“Cupons:” A few years ago my children (young at the time) made me a cupon book and gave it to me as a present. There were cupons for cleaning dishes after dinner, doing laundry, walking the dog… this is another great way to pamper mom. Make her dinner, offer to fix a few “honey do’s” around the house, do the grocery shopping. It’s a fun way to get the children involved too, as they love to come up with good cupon ideas.

No matter what you do or what your budget, you can make Mother’s Day a day to remember. The most important part is to be together as a family and enjoy.
